ASEBP's New Health Calendar!
ASEBP is pleased to introduce our new health calendar, now available by clicking on the calendar cover to the right. This calendar is customized to reflect unique aspects of the school year and incorporates input we've received from the education sector. Each month features a key message aimed at providing simple steps to help improve and maintain your health. Use it to set the stage for a healthy beginning that lasts throughout the school year!
Tools for School
The Tools for School program, an initiative of the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, helps provide students with limited resources the supplies they need to succeed in school. Each year, ASEBP participates in this program by holding a creative building competition using only donated school supplies as building materials.
Before the competition got underway, a cabinet member of the United Way was invited to speak about the impact a program like Tools for School has on local families. With that inspiring presentation in mind, ASEBP staff members went out and purchased school supplies for this worthwhile cause. Five unique creations were then constructed: a school yard, a racetrack, a map of Alberta, the “ABCs of Learning” and a giant calculator.
The picture to the right shows all the supplies donated to Tools for School this year. Included in the final donation was nearly 200 packages of paper, over 110 coiled notebooks, 115 rulers, almost 125 packages of pencils, and 116 sets of pencil crayons!
Direct Billing for Chiropractic Claims
Effective August 3, 2010, ASEBP will be offering direct billing for eligible chiropractic claims. To confirm your EHC coverage, please refer to your ASEBP ID card. You can find a full description of ASEBP’s chiropractic benefit on page 27 of the Benefit Handbook, in the Extended Health Care section.

Monthly Health Focus: Set a Healthy Goal
Although 40 - 45% of adults make New Year’s resolutions less than half are still maintaining that commitment six months later. Why is it that so many great intentions fall short? Before you make a vow to never make a New Year’s Resolution again, consider that people who make New Year’s resolutions are ten times more likely to achieve their goal than those who do not set out a specific goal. Perhaps there is something to be said for making that resolution after all. Within the education sector, September is the launch of the new school year and a great time to get started on a healthy new you! (Read more...)
New Documentation Required for Travel to Cuba

Changes to Prescription Medication Coverage
Health Canada regularly reviews drug products and their categories to determine if some should be reclassified from prescription status to over-the-counter status. Certain drugs have been reclassified, and will become ineligible for inclusion in group health plans, including ASEBP's Extended Health Care plan, effective May 1, 2010.
