Living Outside Alberta
To be eligible for ASEBP coverage, you must be covered under your provincial health plan and be a resident of Canada. If you are an early retiree living outside Alberta, you are still covered for eligible expenses under the plans you are enrolled in. Special processing may be required as outlined below.
Extended Health Care
If you have Extended Health Care coverage, you can submit your receipts for prescription medicines with an Extended Health Care and Vision Care Claim form. Alternatively, ask your pharmacist if he/she offers direct billing. Your pharmacist can contact his/her provider line to confirm the availability of direct billing.
If you require hospitalization, ASEBP will cover the cost of a semi-private room in the province in which you are hospitalized to a maximum of $24 per day.
If you require non-emergency medical treatment that is not available in your province of residence, you must obtain prior approval from ASEBP before having the treatment. ASEBP may be able to help cover some of the treatment costs that your provincial medical plan will not pay for.
If you require emergency medical treatment while travelling outside the country, check the inside of your ASEBP identification card and contact the appropriate emergency number. See the Extended Health Care section for more information.
Dental Care
If you have Dental Care coverage, expenses will be assessed according to the ASEBP Dental Benefit List.
