How do I submit an HSA expense?
HSAs are designed to be flexible so you decide how your credits are used.
Before submitting an expense to your HSA, consider the following questions:
- Have I submitted this expense to my Extended Health Care, Dental Care, or Vision Care benefits first? Make sure you’re getting the most out of your HSA by submitting your eligible expenses to your other ASEBP benefits first.
- On what date did I incur the expense I’m submitting? Only expenses incurred in your current HSA year can be submitted for reimbursement.
To get the most out of your HSA credits, follow these simple steps for any eligible health-related expense you incur. (If the expense is incurred by a dependent, then that dependent must first submit the expense to his or her employer’s plan before submitting any remaining expense to ASEBP. For more information, please visit the Coordination of Benefits section of this website.
- Check your ASEBP coverage
If you have an expense that is covered as part of your Extended Health Care or Vision Care benefits, complete the Extended Health Care and Vision Care Claim form and submit it to ASEBP.
If your expense is covered under your Dental Care benefit, complete the Dental Care Claim form and submit to ASEBP.
- Check your other coverage
If you are covered as a dependent under another plan, you may qualify to submit any outstanding amounts from Step 1 as a claim under that second plan.
- Submit the expense to your HSA
If you still have a remaining expense amount after completing steps 1 and 2 above, submit it to your HSA.

- Login to My ASEBP by clicking the link below:

- Once logged in, click “HSA Expense Entry”.
- Read the instructions then click the “Enter HSA Expenses” button.
- Provide the requested information for each expense you are submitting – you must complete all fields for each expense.
- Click the “Validate & Review Expenses” button.
- Note any errors or warnings you might receive. Errors must to be corrected before you can proceed. Warnings are provided so you can verify the information you have entered.
- Review the information you have entered and then click the “Prepare Submission” button.
- Read the information on the “Prepare Submission” page and click the “I agree” box, then click “Submit to ASEBP.” You will see a confirmation that your expenses have been submitted to ASEBP.
Paper submission Alternatively, you can submit any remaining expenses to your HSA by using the HSA Expense Reimbursement Request form. You must COMPLETELY fill out this form, otherwise it will be returned to you and your reimbursement request will NOT be processed.
Hold on to your receipts and other documentation!
Remember, when submitting your claim do NOT send any receipts or other documentation to ASEBP. Keep all documentation in your files as you may be required to show proof of the expense should ASEBP or the CRA conduct an audit.
Example
If you had a physiotherapy session that cost $100, you might receive $40 back through your ASEBP Extended Health Care benefit coverage (step 1). You might receive an additional $35 back from your other benefit plan (step 2). The remaining $25 is eligible to be sent to your HSA (step 3).
