Leave of Absence Types
Leaves can be categorized into three main types:
Personal leave
A personal leave is when a covered member chooses to take time off from work. Reasons may include educational upgrading, taking a sabbatical, or travelling.
Parental leaves, including a leave taken due to adoption, are included in this category.
Sick leave
A sick leave is when a covered member is unable to work due to illness or injury. Complications from pregnancy are not included in this type.
Maternity leave
A maternity leave is when a covered member is unable to work due to pregnancy, or any medical complications resulting from pregnancy. Covered members may wish to take additional time away from work after their child's birth. In this case, the covered member will be offered benefit continuation options as if they were taking a personal leave.
